I became a therapist because I believe people are capable of change.
I view my role in counseling as a guide – walking through life’s struggles and defeats with my clients and helping them overcome challenges. When I work with clients my goal is to create an environment where they feel welcomed and safe. Therapy can be intimidating, but when there is a trust it it easier to do the hard work that comes with healing. I don’t have all the answers, but what I do have are tools that can move you along your journey towards healing.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of successful therapy, and that the client is the professional with regard to their own story and experience. I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, gestalt techniques, and choice theory into my work with clients. I love working with both kids and adults dealing with life’s challenges. I have specialized training working with eating disorders, anxiety and family conflict.
Outside of work, you can generally find me with a book in hand, spending time with friends, or attempting new recipes in my kitchen. My husband and I love to go camping with our two dogs, Dodger and Bella, and we think they like it too. I grew up in Northern Michigan and have a growing love for the great outdoors; not only because Michigan is a beautiful place to live and find new adventures, but for how healing it can be to connect with nature. I look forward to accompanying you in the counseling journey.
In addition to my internship with Rooted Counseling, I am a graduate student at Cornerstone University, pursuing a Masters in Professional Counseling. I completed my undergraduate degree in Spanish from Central Michigan University.
