Hey there,
I BECAME A THERAPIST BECAUSE I BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE DESERVES A NON-JUDGMENTAL SPACE TO EXPLORE THE COMPLEX JOURNEY OF BEING HUMAN.
My goal as a therapist is to meet you where you are, and to provide comfort, empathy and understanding. My strengths-based approach to therapy empowers you to believe that you are the expert of your situation, while still challenging those ideas and emotions that might be preventing you from finding your joy and peace. My practice integrates the effects of systems and cultures on mental health. I encourage my clients to utilize the resources and supports in their communities and acknowledge the intersectionality of healing. I am actively engaged in my own anti-racist work and being an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community. Before pursuing my MSW, I worked for a decade as a massage therapist and a core belief of my practice is understanding the connection between our mental health and our physical bodies.
I work with adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, family issues, domestic violence, stress, grief and trauma. I enjoy exploring the “bigger questions” in life with my clients which may be present when helping them through issues around death, dying or suicide. I have training and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness based approaches.
When I’m not at work, I spend most of my time with my husband and our five-year-old son. I have been involved in theater, choir and music my entire life, and I am the lead singer of Time2Play, a local rock band. My family loves being outdoors and you might run into me at the park or walking in the woods with my son. I am passionate about local food and produce which is ironic because my thumb is not exactly green! Thankfully, I can visit all the wonderful farmers markets in Lansing and support my local food economy!
Education: I received my master’s degree in social work (MSW) from Michigan State University.
