Hey there,
I BECAME A THERAPIST BECAUSE I BELIEVE EVERYONE NEEDS AND DESERVES CARE, CONNECTION, AND COMFORT WITHIN THEMSELVES AND FROM THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEM.
I personalize treatment for each client based on their values, identities, and experiences. I view the process of change as starting with insight and followed by action. It is not enough to understand why we behave the way we do; we must step toward a different action/reaction. As a lifelong learner, I look forward to learning about and training in more relational interventions. I am passionate about mental health services, and I am committed to serving families from underserved populations and those with complex presenting issues.
As a relational therapist, I am passionate about working with individuals, couples, and families using a systemic lens. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, school stress, life transitions, and relational issues. I work with couples experiencing relationship distress/dissatisfaction, communication barriers, and couples seeking pre-marital counseling. I also work with families struggling with social/emotional concerns, child behavioral concerns, family conflict, parent-child relationships, sibling relationships, and co-parenting.
I have advanced training in systemic, relational therapy models. I utilize attachment theory to conceptualize cases and facilitate change within relationships. With individuals and couples, I often use models such as Emotionally Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems. With families, I frequently use Emotionally Focused Family Therapy, Contextual Family Therapy, and Parent Management Training—Oregon models. Moreover, I have facilitated Play Therapy with families, as well as conversations of racial socialization and coping via EMBRace (a relational intervention for Black families).
I enjoy spending time with friends and family when I’m not working. I love listening to music, binge-watching TV shows on the weekends, and playing games (sudoku, cards, puzzles, you name it!).
Education: I am currently working on my Doctoral degree in Human Development and Family Studies, with a specialization in Couple and Family Therapy at Michigan State University. I received my Master’s degree in Psychology from North Carolina Central University, as well as two Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Mathematics from North Carolina Central University.
