Hey there,
I BECAME A THERAPIST BECAUSE I BELIEVE HEALING IS IMMINENT.
I view every therapy session as a precious opportunity on the journey of removing barriers of judgment and shame that frequently block access to self-knowledge, self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-appreciation. I believe in a holistic approach to healing, incorporating numerous aspects of wellness from emotional to spiritual - wellness is not fragmented and unitary, but a highly integrated experience. I value mindfulness, reflection, and attunement to my clients’ lived experiences on multiple levels. To me, each session is capable of offering a space that facilitates healing in the here and now.
My approach to therapy is to use my therapeutic skills and abilities in a way that enables insight, awareness, motivation, empowerment, hope, ego-strength, self-compassion, and self-appreciation. I’m passionate about and experienced in working with eating disorders, body image concerns, anxiety, ADHD, depression, culture shock/cultural integration, cultural/spiritual identity, international identity, and diversity-related issues. My view of individual psychological makeup is psychodynamic, interpersonal, and spiritual while I also frequently draw from my extensive training in CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy to help conceptualize and make meaning out of clients’ lived experience. I am in the process of becoming trained in clinical hypnosis through American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and in Bengston Healing Method. I see therapy as an opportunity to construct the past, present, and future, reframe experiences collaboratively in a way that promotes growth. Outside of Rooted, I work full-time in MSU’s CAPS program.
Education: I received my doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in counseling psychology from Cleveland State University.
