Hey there,
I BECAME A THERAPIST BECAUSE I BELIEVE WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
We're all travelers on the road to a life of greater joy, adventure, contribution, and peace. It is my deep privilege to share a few miles of that journey with each of my clients.
I work with individual adults and have a specialty in men's counseling with a focus on anxiety and depression, adjustment to parenthood, relationship concerns, career issues, and anger and other emotional struggles. As a longtime ally I welcome LGBTQ+ clients and am experienced working with clients interested in faith-based approaches to counseling.
I approach therapy as a blend of science and art, using evidence-based practices within a client-counselor relationship that is warm, supportive, and challenging. I draw heavily on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients connect to their deepest values and learn to relate to their inner experiences (thoughts, feelings, memories, sensations) in more positive ways.
The most meaningful roles in my life alongside therapist are husband, father, son, and brother. Also outdoor enthusiast, reader, musician, and hockey fan. Outside of Rooted, I work full-time as wellness director and counselor in MSU's College of Arts and Letters.
Education: I completed my M.A. in Counseling at Spring Arbor University and clinical training at Michigan State's Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS). I also have humanities degrees from the University of Nebraska and University of Pittsburgh.
